Parish Council Meeting of 20th March 2014

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 20th March 2014 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Claire Jordan, Jackie Bowers, Gilly Barnes and Terry Henderson.  Also present were District Councillor Bob McClenning and 14 members of the public.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting can be viewed here: Minutes 2014 March 20th - in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (17th April 2014).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2014/0409 – Erection of gate and fence at The Poplars, 6 Bentley Rd, Forncett St Peter was recommended for approval.
  • 2014/0398 – Proposed extension to agricultural steel barn at Red House Farm, High Rd, Forncett St Mary, was recommended for approval.

A further planning application numbered 2014/0290 in respect of the seventeen planned houses on the old CPS site, Station Road, Forncett St Peter was also discussed. As this is a significant application for the village, representatives from the developers, Bennett Homes and the land agents, Chaplin Farrant Ltd, kindly agreed to attend the meeting to give a brief overview of the plans and answer any questions that Councillors or residents may have.

Whilst the plans for the housing were broadly welcomed, Councillors and residents expressed their dismay that the original planned entrance site has been revised from the north of the site to the existing CPS access site on Station Road. This change has been imposed by the highways department at Norfolk County Council who had concerns over the line of vision based on the north entrance site. After some discussion it was agreed that Councillors, supported by our District Councillor, would raise a strong objection to the revision of the entrance / exit point. It was unanimously agreed that the volume of traffic using the access point on the short stretch of road onto Station Road, in between two sharp bends, would be extremely dangerous. The situation would appear to be made worse by the addition of two new bus stops along the same stretch of road, with no provision for the buses to stop anywhere other than in the road.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem again with dog fouling around the school and the footpath at the side of the school. Please could all dog walkers be considerate and clear up after their dogs.

Also, a final reminder to anyone who would like to take part in the village litter pick on Saturday 5th April, please contact the Chairman, Brian Frith on 01953 789882.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 17th April 2014 starting at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.  The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email .
