Parish Council Meeting of 21st November 2013

The Parish Council meeting on 21st November 2013 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Claire Jordan, Jackie Bowers, Terry Henderson, David Peacock and Gilly Barnes.  Also present were County Councillor Bev Spratt, District Councillor Bob McClenning and seven members of the public.

The following planning Applications were discussed:

  • 2013/1880 – Front porch, side garage and rear extension proposed at The Corals, Long Stratton Road, was recommended for approval.
  • 2013/ 1868 – Relocation of existing vehicular access at Walnut Tree House, Long Stratton Road, was recommended for approval.
  • 2013/1989 – Reduce height of ash tree at The Bishops House, Low Road, was recommended for approval.

The replacement for the stolen grit bin from Aslacton Road has been put into place and filled with grit, in preparation for the winter.

Our District Councillor, Bob McClenning reported that he had recently attended the annual Road Safety meeting at South Norfolk Council. Some worrying facts were discussed at the meeting, amongst them being the statistics relating to mobile phone use by drivers and the terrible impact that comes with the lack of concentration. Councillor McClenning reported that the police will be clamping down on mobile phone use and it is possible that the penalties will be reviewed, to give a harsher deterrent.

County Councillor, Bev Spratt reported on the budget cuts due at Norfolk County Council. A funding shortfall of £189 million over the next three years is predicted, unless changes are made. The consultation allowing you to voice your viewpoint regarding this is open until 12 December 2013 and can be accessed via the Norfolk County Council website at www.norfolk.gov.uk and then clicking on the link marked “take part in a consultation”. You can submit your feedback as a resident, a business or even on behalf of schools or community groups. So please, if you have a few minutes to spare, take this opportunity to help shape the future of our public services.

Some interesting feedback has been received concerning the condition of the parish footpaths. We are extremely lucky in Forncett to have 31 footpaths within our parish and they should all remain passable and in good condition. If you are aware of any that are not, please let the clerk know.
