Parish Council Meeting of 18th September 2014

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 18th September 2014 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Claire Jordan, Jackie Bowers and Gilly Barnes.  Also present were six members of the public, County Councillor Bev Spratt and South Norfolk Councillor Bob McClenning.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting will be available here when published - in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (16th October 2014).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2014/1617: Rose Villa, Low Rd, Forncett St Peter – demolish existing bungalow and erect three bedroom dwelling with integral garage. Following discussion, this was recommended for approval.
  • 2014/1768: The Bishops House, Low Rd, Forncett St Peter – amendment to existing permission, change to rear elevation roof and removal of window. . Following discussion, this was recommended for approval.

The condition of the public footpaths in the village has been a matter raised at Parish Council meetings several times over the last year. Funding cuts at Norfolk County Council mean that they are no longer carrying out the maintenance on public footpaths that they used to and this has led to some paths becoming overgrown and, in places, inaccessible. It is hoped to arrange a public meeting involving Norfolk CC Public Rights of Way Officer, the Parish Council, landowners and members of the public to clarify the situation and investigate ways to maintain the paths in the future for use by all.  More details will be published as soon as this is arranged.

Road closures – The initial part of the road works relating to the gas works means that the road will be closed between Bayes Lane and Chequers Hill from 22nd September for anything up to six weeks. Further closures will follow as the work moves through the village. Please note that this work is not bringing mains gas to Forncett.

Long Stratton Road will also be closed for footpath and drainage works from the crossroads junction near the Jolly Farmers to somewhere near the junction of Tabernacle Lane from 10th November 2014, again for up to six weeks. A diversion will be put into place by Norfolk County Council.

Changes will shortly be taking place meaning that your recycling bins will take items such as glass and tetra paks. Watch out for further information to come from South Norfolk Council.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 16th October 2014 starting at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.  The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email  .
