Parish Council Meeting of 16th October 2014

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 16th October 2014 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, David Peacock and Gilly Barnes.  Also present were seven members of the public, County Councillor Bev Spratt and South Norfolk Councillor Bob McClenning.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting will be available here when published - in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (20th November 2014).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2014/1931: Anstey House, West Rd, Forncett St P – Proposed one and two storey extensions – recommended for approval.
  • 2014/2020: Tawny Farm, Station Rd, Forncett St P: Retrospective application for siting of 4kw stand alone solar panels – recommended for approval.
  • 2014/2022: Chequers Farm, Chequers Hill, Forncett St M – First floor extension above existing single storey – recommended for approval.

As most residents probably know, Forncett Parish Council has been successful in previous years in applying for highways works to be undertaken as part of the Highways Parish Partnership Scheme. This is a scheme run by Norfolk County Council, previously funded by a 75% donation from the County Council, with the parish council funding the remaining 25%. Our projects were the path on Aslacton Road and the flashing “slow down” sign at the bottom of Mill Road. The final project has been completed recently, which is the piece of path between Bentley Road and Orchard Close. Although this is only a relatively small section of path, it is hoped it will make walking along this part of Long Stratton Road much safer for everyone.

The County Council has recently announced that the scheme will be available this year but on a 50/50 funding basis. The Parish Council is looking into the cost of the “SAM2” machines. These show the speed of vehicles as they are passing and, if the approaching vehicle is exceeding the speed limit, will also display “slow down”. These machines need to be moved regularly, so could be placed at spots throughout the village where speeding remains a concern.  Councillors are also looking into the viability of doing more to provide footpaths near the school as part of this scheme.

The changes as to which items can be placed in your green recycling bin have taken place. You can now recycle shredded paper, envelopes, aluminium foil, food trays and lots more plastic items, such as yoghurt pots and margarine tubs. You can leave lids on your glass jars and plastic bottles, i.e. milk cartons. There is lots more information of what can or cannot be recycled on the South Norfolk Council website, or you can contact the clerk for more information.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 20th November 2014 at 7.30pm. The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email
