Update on Tasway Solar Development, December 2025

Greetings to all.

Anyone registered for news updates with Tasway will have received copy of the Tasway Public Update, available here

We have been receiving lots of questions from our members, unsure about what this actually means and what to expect going forward.

Here is a brief explanation, and our view as to how it affects us.

  • The background to the story is that there are too many projects – be they battery storage units, solar farms, wind farms etc – waiting to get a connection to the electricity grid (more than 2200 across the country.
  • Consequently NESO, part of National Grid until last year and now back in public ownership, has undertaken a review to prioritize those projects that are closer to potential completion.
  • Priority is to be given to those projects that are ready, or soon will be ready, to proceed, having gained their planning permissions and demonstrated they are in a position to build their infrastructure.
  • Three outcomes come from the review – projects are awarded either Gate 1 or Gate 2 status or are dismissed from the list altogether.
  • Gate 2 status is awarded to those projects in the strongest position to proceed. Projects meeting Gate 2 standards secure a firm connection date, point, and queue position.
  • Projects that don't meet strict "Gate 2" criteria for readiness and strategic alignment fall into Gate 1. This provides only an indicative connection point and date, not a confirmed one, i.e.it's a path for projects to remain in the queue for future consideration if they can demonstrate readiness later.
  • The Tasway proposals have been given Gate 1 status, which means they have no firm option to proceed at this time. Our understanding is that all connection allocations up to 2035 have now been taken up by protected projects, so we expect a significant delay before a re-application is possible.

We are waiting for more detailed information from both NESO and Tasway, but for now the immediate threat of development is lifted it seems. We will however continue gathering data so that we are ready to respond fully to any future proposals from Tasway for their solar power station.

Best wishes
