We know what we can recycle in our kerb-side bins but what else can we save from landfill?

All the following can be recycled locally:

Crisp/snack packets, biscuit/cake wrappers, toothbrushes/toothpaste tubes, cheese wrappers, confectionery packaging, Taylors coffee bags, bread bags, dishwasher salt and pod bags, medicine blister packs, contact lens packaging, Carex refills and laundry pod bags. They also help raise vital funds for charities.

Just drop them off in the bins at Atherstone House, Wymondham Rd, Wreningham or in any of the Upper Tas Valley Benefice Churches.

Look out for this symbol on packaging.                  

Someone will collect it so check out the TerraCycle website to find a drop off point or local collector. .

The major supermarkets now recycle all flexible plastic. Whilst that includes many of the above items, it’s important to keep dropping them off to collectors and not the supermarkets. However, all other flexible plastic can be put in the designated bin – that includes carrier bags, plastic mailing envelopes, bubble wrap, fruit/veg bags, bags from toilet and kitchen rolls, nappies etc, pet food pouches, pouches from sauces, bags from dry goods such as rice, pasta and cereals.

It's not easy, but every bit helps. However, if you want to reduce the amount of plastic coming into your life, maybe you can start by buying fruit and vegetables loose either from a market or farm shop. If from a supermarket, take your own bags and just use those. We each do what we can. A second thought before buying often comes up with a solution.
