Parish Council Meeting of 20th November 2014

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 20th November 2014 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Claire Jordan, Jackie Bowers, Terry Henderson and Gilly Barnes and Clerk Anne Rayner.  Also present were six members of the public, and County Councillor Bev Spratt (for part of the meeting).

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting will be available here when published - in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (18th December 2014).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2014/2091: 2 Bentley Rd, Forncett St Peter – Two storey extension - recommended for approval.
  • 2014/2239: Land north of 12 Bentley Rd, Forncett St Peter – erection of a two storey dwelling – recommended for approval.

The Parish Council has recently been discussing whether or not to provide a financial contribution towards a pilot scheme to include New Road (between Ashwellthorpe and Tacolneston) in the winter gritting programme. After further discussion, it was agreed to provide a contribution but parish councillors felt this should be matched by further gritting provision within Forncett and agreed to purchase two additional grit bins. One will be placed at the Forncett side of Cheneys Lane. The other spot is yet to be agreed so if anyone is aware of an ideal spot for another grit bin, please do get in touch with the clerk with your suggestion.

County Councillor Bev Spratt asked residents to bear with the highways team during the road closures in the village. The works on Long Stratton Road should be completed before Christmas. The first few days of works had been frustrating for residents and people attempting to drive through the village, as the original diversion signs were confusing, to say the least. However, these were quickly amended after Chairman Brian Frith contacted the highways team at Norfolk County Council.

The parish council has been successful in securing a grant from Norfolk County Council towards the cost of a new bus shelter, to replace the one currently near the Jolly Farmers. The Highways department will be laying the base of the shelter and works will start on this as soon as they are able, but it will probably be after Christmas.

PC Simon Redhead has been appointed as the new beat manager for the team based at Long Stratton. PCSOs Jason Dack and Liz Cook remain and have also been joined by PCSO Caroline Quinn. They report that theft of heating oil continues to be a problem in rural Norfolk but you can receive free crime prevention advice. Just call 101 to arrange an appointment.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 18th December 2014 at 7.30pm. The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email
